A JOURNALIST SHOULD KNOW WHAT THROW-IN IS, WHAT OFFSIDE IS
Atilla Sertel shared his experiences about journalism in the course of Faculty of Communication 4th grade students. Sertel stated that his love for journalism started in his high school years with the article he sent to HEY magazine and said, “My article became the second best article in Turkey. I was determined to be a journalist. I studied at Ege University School of Journalism and Public Relations and took a serious step towards this profession.” Sertel indicated that being a journalist was very different in the past and they had to grow faster, he pointed out that today, media became monopolized.
Atilla Sertel underlined the fact that a journalist had to be equipped with social and cultural subjects, Sertel said, “If you want to be a journalist you have to become obsessed with this profession. Man, woman, does not matter, you have to have knowledge about everything. It does not matter even if you are a woman, you have to know what throw-in is, what offside is. Being a journalist requires this. You have to follow the agenda; you have to know what can be newsworthy. That is why; if you have questions in your mind about this profession, you must make them clear. If you want to do this job you should not have questions.”
After sharing his experiences, Atilla Sertel answered the questions of the students together with Dean of Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Sevda Alankuş.
