The leaders of the future received their diplomas
191 students, who successfully completed their master's and doctoral programs at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), received their diplomas at a joyful graduation ceremony. The students, who gained expertise in the fields they wish to pursue a career in, wore their gowns and tossed their caps into the air, celebrating their happiness. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, Director of the IUE Graduate School, compared the graduates to a ship setting sail towards new horizons and said, “Your route is to contribute to the future of our country and humanity in the light of science and reason.”
The graduates, who came to the ceremony held on IUE’s Balçova campus with their spouses, children, and families, created colorful scenes. New graduates, who had long dreamed of obtaining their diplomas, shared their joy with their loved ones and professors.
YOU ARE ALSO THE GAIN OF THE WORLD
Speaking at the ceremony, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu emphasized the importance of graduate education, saying, “Graduate education aims to specialize in a specific field, enhancing an individual's knowledge and skills while also training the qualified and equipped workforce needed by the country. Individuals who receive this education are expected to gain the ability to access knowledge, critically evaluate and apply it, and generate new knowledge. I am confident that you have acquired these competencies. What you have gained is not just your own achievement but also the gain of this country and, ultimately, the world. The diplomas you will receive today are also signs that we, as a university, have fulfilled our purpose. I thank you for giving meaning to our existence.”
QUALIFIED HUMAN RESOURCES
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, Director of the IUE Graduate School, stated that with 9 doctoral and 29 master's programs, they are training the qualified human resources that the country needs. He noted that this year, by graduating 15 doctoral students, they have achieved a historic first for the University, which is a source of great pride not only for the University but also for the country.
YOU ARE THE CAPTAIN
Prof. Dr. Biresselioğlu, who gave important messages by comparing the graduates to a ship sailing toward new horizons, said, “The construction of the ship, that is, undergraduate education, provides the essential equipment needed to set sail. However, the real journey begins with graduate education. You set sail for new knowledge with the wind at your back. You fight storms and sail through vast seas. Every new piece of knowledge makes your ship stronger. Your ports are the achievements you reach and the experiences you gain. Now, as the captains of these ships, you are setting sail for the seas. Your route is to contribute to the future of our country and humanity in the light of science and reason.”
