The Wedding Dress Design Competition, which was held with the theme of ‘modaverse’ (fashion verse) this year, has been a source of great excitement. In the final competition, where there was extensive participation from all over Turkey, the winners were determined among 15 assertive designs. As a result of the evaluation made by the jury, third year students of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Textile and Fashion Design, classmates Enes Yolcu and İlayda Yasın were awarded. Enes Yolcu, won the first place with his wedding dress design using satin and organza fabric, embroidered with stones and pearls. İlayda Yaşın came in third with her design inspired by the North Star using pure silk fabric.
PATTERNS OF IRIS
IUE student Yolcu stated that she completed the design of the wedding dress called ‘Benliğimin Özü’ in about 1 month. Yolcu said, “Inspired by the iris flower in my wedding dress design, I transferred the patterns of this flower to my design. I prepared a total of 3 designs for the competition. After being in the final, we chose one of them and sewed the wedding dress. I was confident in myself, I believed that I would be successful. The first place was an extra happiness and excitement for me. I want to improve myself in the field of fashion. It is very valuable to receive an award in such an important competition. Since I came first, I will also present a 40-piece performance fashion show next year. I want to prepare well for it and create beautiful designs. I love my major, university and fashion. I believe that I will be successful in this field.”
A DESIGN THAT FITS THE THEME
Sharing the details of the wedding dress she named ‘Polaris’, İlayda Yaşın said, “The North Star (Polaris) symbolizes uncertainty and the horizon. I thought that it would be suitable for the theme of the competition, and I created my design inspired by the structure of the North Star. I used wire breaking and stone embroidery on pure silk fabric. Especially the preparation of wire breaking takes a lot of time. I spent about 4-5 months for the designs. I worked hard, I was very meticulous; it was all worth it. Receiving an award is a great feeling. Actually, I felt that I was going to get an award, I was expecting an award. But the moment I saw my name, there was great excitement and enthusiasm. It was also meaningful for me that it was my first award. I would like to thank my professors, everyone who shared my excitement and supported me by trusting me. ”
