First step to medicine

60 students, who started their education at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Medicine this year, took the first step on the path to medicine by wearing their white coats and taking the "Medical Student Oath". Addressing the students at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Hakan Abacıoğlu, Dean of IUE Faculty of Medicine, said, “As a physician, you will make decisions about your patients' lives. These decisions should be based on knowledge, experience and common sense. At this point you have to study hard, question and develop yourself relentlessly.”

IUE Faculty of Medicine 2022-2023 Academic Year White Coat Ceremony was held in the amphitheater on campus. Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO) Assembly President Selami Özpoyraz, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, Prof. Dr. Hakan Abacıoğlu, Dean of IUE Faculty of Medicine, academics, students’ families, and guests attended the ceremony that was broadcast live from the University's YouTube account. Parents, who saw their children in white coats for the first time, experienced great excitement at the ceremony. Mustafa Sacid Taş, who has been placed in IUE Faculty of Medicine with the highest score this year, and Batuhan Çiftçi, Student Representative of the Faculty of Medicine, also delivered speeches at the ceremony.

Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar stated that as a faculty, they stand out with their innovative education, strong infrastructure and qualified academic staff. Emphasizing that they are one of the most distinguished universities providing medical education in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Aşkar said, “Our University has become even stronger with its highly qualified human resources and its affiliation with Medical Point Hospital, one of the leading health institutions of our country. This union also provided many opportunities privileges for students. Medical education involves a difficult and grueling process. However, our students have the capacity to overcome all difficulties with the success they have achieved so far.
