The lives of the masters became a book

The lives of Sadun Ersin, Önder Küçükerman and Fikret Tan, who draw attention with their successful works in the field of interior architecture in Turkey and guide many young people and the world of science with their projects, became a book. 3 books published by Deniz Hasırcı, Zeynep Tuna Ultav and Melis Örnekoğlu Selçuk with the title of ‘Sözlü Tarih Yöntemiyle Türkiye’de Mobilya ve İçmimarlık Tarihini Okumak’ (Reading the History of Furniture and Interior Architecture in Turkey with the Oral History Method) met the readers through Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Press.
Izmir University of Economics established a 'publishing house' last year with the aim of developing projects that will add value to academic and social life as well as producing knowledge. IUE Press first published the book ‘Kervan Bridge’, which describes the development of the commercial life in Izmir with its historical phases. The second work of IUE Press was the book ‘Applied Social Network Analysis’, which attracted attention in the academia. Continuing its work without slowing down, IUE Press has finally brought a very special 3-book series to the academia.
METICULOUS AND DETAILED WORK
Works were realized as a result of a meticulous and detailed study by Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, Lecturer at IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Tuna Ultav, Head of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Yaşar University, and Melis Örnekoğlu Selçuk, a doctoral candidate working as a researcher in the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Product Design at Ghent University. The books featured the life stories of Ersin, Küçükerman and Tan, their work to date, and the views of people who knew them closely. ‘Oral history’ talks were also turned into movies to be shared on social media platforms.
BOOKS WILL CONTINUE
Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, said that they will continue to write books about the actors of interior architecture and furniture history in Turkey. Stating that as a team, they carry out studies titled ‘DATUMM: Documenting and Archiving Turkish Modern Furniture (datumm.org)’ and ‘Reading the History of Furniture and Interior Architecture of Turkey with the Oral History’ with the support of IUE Scientific Research Project, Prof. Dr. Hasırcı stated that the books were a continuation of these projects. Prof. Dr. Hasırcı said, “Sadun Ersin, Önder Küçükerman and Fikret Tan are important figures that we all respect, who have carried out very important works in the field of design and interior architecture in Turkey, and developed pioneering projects. It made us very happy to prepare books about their lives, work and the values they brought to our country. It is possible to buy the books at yayin.ieu.edu.tr or through bookstores.”
