Geneticists’ success in ‘Germany’

Nine newly graduated students from Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Genetics and Bioengineering achieved great success by being accepted to 6 different universities in Germany for their master's degree. IUE students, who have been selected among hundreds of people in Turkey by making a difference with their advanced foreign language skills, scientific research and high grade point averages, will conduct studies at an international level in different fields of genetics. Students, who will spend two years in Germany, will take lessons from experts in their fields abroad, produce new projects here and shape their career goals in line with these experiences. While Nazlıgül Keske, Tolga Danışmanz and Melis Öztibet from IUE went to Germany and started to receive education; Özüm Karpat, Onur Ateş, Başak Buse Karakuzulu, Gönlüm Bahar Uçar, Sude Mısra Baylan and Sıla Sezan will start training in October.
WE ARE ON THE SAME LEVEL WITH THE UNIVERSITIES ABROAD
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Fırtına Karagonlar, Head of IUE Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, stated that they provide education at an equal level with top universities abroad. Stating that as a department, they are in a habit of directing their students to research and projects, and all these allow students to be successful, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Karagonlar said, “Our students have reached the point they deserve by making good use of the opportunities we offer them as a department. Getting into these universities is not easy. They had to go through many stages including the examination of the projects made so far and oral exam. They should pass all these stages successfully. Happily, 9 of our students completed this process without any problems and created a new opportunity for themselves. I have no doubt that they will represent our country in the best way by adding new successes abroad, just like they did in our university.”
EMPHASIS ON ‘ERASMUS INTERNSHIP’ AND ‘PROJECT’
Erasmus Coordinator, Asst. Prof. Dr. Cihangir Yandım from Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, also said, “It is very important four us that our students go abroad with Erasmus internship before they graduate. At this point, by making the necessary initiatives, we provide them with the opportunity to expand abroad through Erasmus and gain experience in this way. Among the students who were accepted to Germany, there were also those who benefited from this internship. Another important issue is the TUBITAK projects. Students develop themselves by taking part in joint projects with their academics and experience the pleasure of producing and researching. In addition, we prepare the ground for students to publish academic publications. The success of our students is an indication that we are on the right track as a department.”
