Double cups for IUE student Burçak
National gymnast Burçak Şenman (18), student at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), won the double cup at the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament hosted by France. Şenman, leaving behind her 25 competitors who participated in the championship from various countries, was awarded the first place in the senior category with her successful performance using both club and ball. Izmir resident Şenman, who participated in the online championship by connecting live from Halkapınar Sports Hall, received great acclaim with her unique figures and increased the number of medals and trophies in her career to 50.
STARTED AT THE AGE OF 3
Burçak Şenman, student of IUE Vocational School Applied English and Translation Program, started gymnastics in Manisa at the age of 3. Şenman, who regularly went to the gym and participated in the activities in the kindergarten age, became even more attached to gymnastics. Moving to Izmir with her family at age of 7 and has been practicing here since then, Şenman also attracted the attention of her trainers.
JOINED THE NATIONAL TEAM
Şenman, who regularly practices in a private sports club, had the pleasure of joining the National Team at the age of 11. Şenman, who has been collecting awards in competitions throughout Turkey since middle school, climbed the ladder of success quickly. Şenman, who won the first place with the National Team at the Aerobic Gymnastics Aquae Lex Bains World Cup held in France in 2016, also came first in Turkey individually in 2019. Şenman, who made a difference with her talent in both rhythmic and aerobic gymnastics, also won the first place in the Baku Gymnastics Championship Competition held on March 26.
I SAID TO MYSELF, 'YOU NAILED THIS BURÇAK'
Şenman, who continues her practices in Güzelbahçe, where she moved with her family, as her house in Bornova was severely damaged in the earthquake that occurred on October 30, said, “The tournament organized by the International Gymnastics Federation was held online this year due to the pandemic. However, the rules of the face-to-face competition applied. In many online competitions, you record your performance with video and send it to the competition. I performed live at the tournament in France. I had only one right; I did one of my moves with a club and the other with a ball. I won two first places with my performance both with club and ball. Before the tournament, my excitement increased. When the competition started, I suddenly calmed down. I performed with confidence. I believed that I would rank, while I was performing, I said to myself, 'You nailed this Burçak'. And, so I did. I'm very happy. My cups have been shipped, when they arrive, I will place them in the most beautiful part of my room.”
GYMNASTICS IS MY LIFE
Şenman stated the following: “Gymnastics, which I started at the age of 3, shaped my life. Many things, such as my education, my circle of friends, my lifestyle and my eating habits, have been formed based on gymnastics. Gymnastics is my life, my passion that I cannot give up. Continuing this passion successfully gives me indescribable happiness. I also competed on behalf of my university in the championship in France. I am also very happy to represent my university successfully. In gymnastics, it becomes a problem when you take a break or don’t exercise regularly. While I am studying my lessons, I also continue my training regularly. I practice 3-4 hours a day. I want to achieve new successes by participating in competitions both on behalf of my country and individually."
