Izmir University of Economics "Career Fair"

Izmir University of Economics (IUE), which aims to bring its students and alumni together with the representatives of the business world and offer them new opportunities, has carried the "Career Fair" event, which has been organized continuously for 5 years, to the digital platform. The event, where 56 companies operating in different sectors such as energy, informatics, production, tourism and automotive, will take place on 12-13 April 2021. Mahmut Özgener, President of IUE Board of Trustees, said that the young people of Izmir University of Economics, who have a good command of English and are raised in line with the demands of the sector, make a difference in business life. President Özgener said, “The Career Fair event is an important opportunity not only for our students and alumni, but also for companies aiming to have a qualified workforce.”

4 thousand people will participate in this year's Career Fair, which is carried out in Turkey by limited number of universities, and one to one job interviews will be held via video conferencing. Students, alumni, and company officials will log in to the user account created for them by entering their information. Students will be able to make an appointment with the company representative they want between 10.00 and 16.00. Students and alumni, who will have the opportunity to direct every question in their mind to companies, will meet with company managers. IUE, completing all preparations by using the international fair infrastructure to make the event go smoothly, will hold the Career Fair for the first time in a virtual environment. The event will be open only to IUE students and alumni. Mahmut Özgener, President of IUE Board of Trustees, drew attention to the importance of the Career Fair, emphasizing that young people may have difficulties in contacting companies due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

President Özgener said, “Our students know that the diploma of Izmir University of Economics will always create privileges and open new doors for them. However, quality education alone is not enough They should take the right steps in line with their goals, where they can fully show their potential, and make their internship or job choices accordingly. We stand by our students and alumni not only on campus but also outside the campus. We strive to guide them in the best possible way and to ensure that they reach their dreams. Career Fair is a perfect example of this. On our campus where 8 languages ​​are spoken; our students, who are trained by academics who have industry experience and have participated in international studies, have been the favorite of companies until today. They made us proud with their success and set an example for the generations that came after them. I sincerely believe that new success stories will be added in a short time.”

WE FOCUSED ON DIGITALIZATION

IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, on the other hand, stated that a record attendance is expected to the Career Fair this year. The Rector said, “Our students are looking forward to applying the knowledge they have gained at the University in business life. Our graduates also evaluate to achieve their goals, they go over with a fine-tooth comb to make the right decision. The pandemic has changed not only the social life and work routine, but also the expectations of our students and companies. We made the necessary updates in our education in order to keep up with this change and focused on digitalization. At this point, I think that our students will attract the attention of companies to meet the workforce needs. As a university with 18 thousand graduates and 10 thousand students, we will continue to raise young people who will shed light on the future of our country.”
