“We prepared strongly for the new semester”
Reaching a record occupancy rate this year, and becoming one of Turkey's most preferred universities, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), started the 20th academic year "online". Mahmut Özgener, President of IUE Board of Trustees, who gave messages to students about the new semester said, “As Izmir University of Economics community, we prepared strongly for the new semester. Being a pioneer in distance education and an example, we are one of the universities with the best technological infrastructure in Turkey. In this way, our students will always be advantageous and distinctive.”
Izmir University of Economics, which was established on April 14, 2001 as the first foundation university of the Aegean Region and will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, welcomed the new semester with more than 9 thousand students. IUE Rector Prof. Murat Aşkar and Student Council Honorary Member Oğuzhan Yıldırım placed a wreath on Ataturk Bust on behalf of all students on the first day of the new semester. While the new semester started with online education due to the pandemic, Mahmut Özgener, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Prof. Murat Aşkar, IUE Rector, addressed the students via university's Youtube channel and wished success.

Emphasizing that as Izmir University of Economics they are preparing for the new semester in the best possible way, President Özgener said, “Education is a lifelong information chain without age or limits. One of the most important links of this chain is your university achievements. Although we are far from the campus enthusiasm we are accustomed to due to the pandemic, as Izmir University of Economics community, we are strongly ready for the new semester. You will always be advantageous and distinctive as a student of one of the universities with the best technological infrastructure in Turkey that is leading and model in online education. You will experience the privileges and opportunities of being a student of Izmir University of Economics without coming to the university.”

President Özgener continued as follows: “We missed the moments we were together, accumulated unforgettable memories and spent time freely. We hope that we will overcome the effects of the pandemic as soon as possible and reach the days we longed for, together. I trust you all and know that every step you take, as the producer, project developer and beacon of tomorrow, will lead you to success.”
PRIORITY TARGET 'ROLE MODEL UNIVERSITY'
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar stated that although they feel bitter about not being able to come together with the students, they are excited to start a new semester. The Rector said, “As Izmir University of Economics, one of our top priorities is to be a 'role model university'. We take serious steps in this direction, develop projects and constantly renew ourselves. We will put these into practice as of 2020-2021 academic year. We have established a system where our students can adapt in a short time, listen to the lectures as they wish, and communicate with academics instantly. We will be able to instantly record lectures in 250 classrooms at the university. We will offer young people the opportunity to receive a strong and qualified education. With 2 thousand 148 new students who joined us this year, Izmir University of Economics community grew even more. I believe that we will add new achievements to the university in this semester.”
WE TOOK HEALTH MEASURES FOR THE APPLIED COURSES
Stating that the 4th year students of the Faculty of Medicine started clinical applications at the Medical Park Hospital, Prof. Aşkar said that they also made the necessary planning for all the lessons that should be conducted practically at the university. Prof. Aşkar indicated that they designed separators in order for students to maintain social distance and prevent physical contact and conveyed that the lessons would be held safely.
