Training young academics on preparing a TUBITAK project
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Business and IUE Project Development and Technology Transfer Office will co-conduct the “TUBITAK Research Project Preparation Training in Social Sciences” for scientists. In the online event, scientists will be given training on managing the application process, project management and budgeting.
60 scientists will attend the event in two parallel sessions that will be moderated by Prof. Şükrü Özen, Lecturer at IUE Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Business. Apart from Prof. Özen, tarinings will also be conducted by Prof. Sedef Akgüngör from Dokuz Eylül University, Prof. Ayşe Gündüz Hoşgör from Middle East Technical University, Prof. Hakan Yetkiner from Izmir University of Economics, and Assoc. Prof. Semahat Özdemir from Izmir Institute of Technology. Academics and doctoral students working in the field of social sciences at 33 different universities in Turkey will receive training in the program where Prof. Burcu Güneri Çangarlı, Dean of IUE Faculty of Business, Prof. Şükrü Özen, Res. Asst. Beyza Gürel, and Dr. Gizem Ayna Duran from IUE Technology Transfer Office take part in the Regulatory Board.
Prof. Özen provided information about the training program and pointed out that doing scientific research was the most important mission of scientists. “Financial support has been provided to scientists' research through the TUBITAK Research Support Programs Directorate for many years. Maximum 14 percent of the proposed projects can be supported in this process where there is high competition due to the large number of applications. This rate is even lower in Social Sciences than in Natural and Applied Sciences. IUE Faculty of Business and IUE Project Development and Technology Transfer Office collaborate to carry out online training to contribute to the increase of scientific research support in Social Sciences,” said Prof. Özen.
Noting that they received support for the event through TUBITAK’s Directorate of Science Fellowships and Grant Programs (BIDEB) 2237-B Project Training Support Program, Prof. Özen said, “In the training, the researchers will be told what should be done during the preparation of TUBITAK's project calls for national projects such as 1001, 1003,1005, 3501. We aim to develop the capacity of the participants to find original research questions, to create a theoretical framework, to choose the appropriate research design and method, to manage the project management, budgeting and application process. In addition, it is aimed to develop the project proposal drafts of the participants by practice is also planned.”
