The “9th Communication Workshop”, a traditional event organized by the Faculty of Communication, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) brought 116 students from 14 high schools together with the communication professionals. After attending workshops on media, creative documentary, and advertising, the high schoolers got a chance to develop their own projects with the basic knowledge they received.
Students, who attended the 9th Communication Workshop, did studies on advertising, media and documentary cinema, under the guidance of academics from 'Public Relations and Advertising', 'Media and Communication', and 'Cinema and Digital Media' departments of IUE Faculty of Communication. Students chose workshops of their interests and started to work on their own projects after a basic education. At the end of a two-day event, students presented their ad campaigns, videos, and short documentaries.
Students became acquainted with the world of communication
Prof. Ebru Uzunoğlu, Dean of IUE Faculty of Communication, pointed that occupational choices shaped the future of young people, and she said that high school students got an opportunity to experience the fields of communication sector for two days. “Students got to know the world of communication better. In the media workshop, they experienced making a video professionally and speaking in front of cameras; in radio workshop they explored podcasts. In the creative documentary workshop, they learned narration and cinema language in creative documentaries. In the advertising workshop, they witnessed how the ad campaigns were designed. This workshop allowed students to have a first-hand experience of the operations of the communication sector,” said Uzunoğlu.
