
The ‘Distinguished Young Scientist Award’ goes to IUE Academic

Prof. Seda Dural Çetinkaya, Head of Department of Psychology, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), has been deemed worthy of the “Distinguished Young Scientist Award” of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) in the field of psychology. Prof. Çetinkaya has been one of the 28 academics, and the only one in the field of psychology, to receive this award nationwide. Prof. Çetinkaya will receive her award from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on December 30 in Ankara. Prof. Çetinkaya stated that being granted such a prestigious award made her very proud, and she said, “It is priceless to be selected as one of the most successful scientists of Turkey.”
Prof. Seda Dural Çetinkaya, Head of IUE Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts and Science, who has many projects and articles in international journals in the field of psychology, applied to TUBA last February. Along with all her studies she has conducted so far and the reference letters, Prof. Çetinkaya also submitted a report on her projected studies to TUBA.
PRESENTED IN FRONT OF 10 PEOPLE
With her remarkable studies, Prof. Çetinkaya, passed the initial stage and was invited for an interview in Ankara in November where she delivered a presentation on “Behavioral Neurology” to a team of 10 people. She explained the projects she wants to carry into effect in the field of behavioral neurology in the coming years. Having passed all the evaluations successfully, Prof. Çetinkaya has been granted the “2019 Distinguished Young Scientist Award”.
“I WILL CONTINUE MY PROJECTS”
Expressing her happiness for the award, Prof. Çetinkaya said, “Every person has moments they cannot forget in their lives. I will never forget the way I felt when I first heard that I qualified for this award. My biggest goal as an academic is to prepare my students for future the best way possible, and engage in studies and projects that will contribute the world of science. Of course, I am not doing all this for a reward only. Having said that, all my efforts being taken seriously and awarded by such an important institution such as TUBA, makes me very proud at the same time. I will continue to work on projects that will contribute to the field of psychology.”
SECOND AWARD CONSECUTIVELY
Assoc. Prof. Göktuğ Karpat, Lecturer at IUE Department of Physics, Faculty of Arts and Science, has been awarded the “Distinguished Young Scientist Award” of the TUBA in the field of physics last year. This year, Prof. Seda Dural Çetinkaya, Head of IUE Department of Psychology, has been granted the same award. Two academics from the Faculty of Arts and Science of Izmir University of Economics became the winner of this award for two consecutive years.
