Costume and stage designs by Izmir University of Economics
Costumes of German theater come to life in the hands of IUE fashion designers. Jörn Fröhlich, Lecturer, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, completed the design of stage and costumes of the play Cabaret. Fröhlich formerly designed the stage and costumes for the plays Grimm and Gretel, Alice in Wonderland, and Ubu the King, staged by the German theater group ‘Theater Spiellust’.
As Cansu İncesu, graduate from IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, supported Fröhlich, the designs of students, Yaren Eren, Nazlı Yazaydın, Deniz Osmanoğlu, Beyza Güngör, Melisa Dungan, Yaren Öner, İrem Albayrak, and Berna Dumlu, were displayed in the play.
Fröhlich stated that Turkey made a name for itself for its accomplishments in the field of design. “Quality of design education in Turkey attracts attention in international platforms. I made stage and costume designs for many plays. The quality of our students, in addition to the education, also draws attention. International products come out thanks to their creativity. We worked on the costume and stage designs of Cabaret, a play that revolves around the 1920’s nightlife. Our design studies will continue,” said Fröhlich.
