Department of Interior Architecture showered with prizes

Interior architecture students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are showered with prizes for their concept store designs. IUE young interior architects received first prize, second prize, honorary mention, and exhibition prize at the interior design competition co-organized by Belenco Quartz Surfaces and TMMOB Chamber of Interior Architects of Izmir.
Berk İsmail Öndül, sophomore from IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design came in first place with his concept store design where small objects and coffee is sold. Nuri Koparan and İskender Kömür, both sophomores from IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, received second prize and honorary mention respectively. Sevginur Ursavaş, junior also from the same department, received exhibition prize.
The awards were given to students as part of the ‘’World Interiors Day’’ organized by International Federation of Interior Architects / Designers (IFI) 's and TMMOB the Chamber of Interior Architects of Izmir, which is the first and only member as the municipal area in Turkey. Asst. Prof. Markus Wilsing, Head of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, IFI Ambassador, Assoc. Prof. Özgen Osman Demirbaş, and Lecturer Silvia Rolla accompanied the students on this special day.
2nd year studio lecturers Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, Silvia Rolla, Başak Zeynep Edes, Mahmut Haluk Tatari, Selin Anal, Idil Orlin Pontremoli, Res. Asst. İdil Bakır Küçükkaya, and 3rd year studio lecturers Thomas Keogh, Assoc. Prof. Özgen Osman Demirbaş, Güneş Atakan Pekşen, Selin Özertuğrul, Esra Bici Nasır, and Res. Asst. Elif Büyükkeçeci, supported the participation of the students in this competition. Tunç Soyer, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Shashi Caan, IFI CEO, Emrah Kaymak, Head of TMMOB Chamber of Interior Architects Ankara, Tülin Gazi, 12th Period Chairperson of TMMOB Chamber of Interior Architects Izmir Branch, Berkan Çağlar, Assistant General Manager of Belenco Quartz Surfaces, Members of the Board of Directors, and the interior architects from the surrounding cities also attended the event that took place at Izmir Mogambo.
Atts. Prof. Markus Wilsing, Head of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, indicated that students were asked to use their creativity in the competition. Wilsing said, “This year, our second year students worked on concept stores. They designed stores, with collaboration of Çiçek Construction Company, based on product range of their interest. They designed stores such as bookstores, coffee stores, stores where small objects are sold. Our students made us very proud on the World Interiors Day.”
