1ST NATIONAL INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS MEETING AT IUE
Demirtaş: “Global Power Turkey in 2023”
In his opening speech, İzmir Chamber of Commerce and İzmir University of Economics Board of Trustees President Ekrem Demirtaş said, "If you design good, produce quality, you take place in the world. Turkey became a regional power with this young power and creative people. The aim is Global Power Turkey in 2023.” Demirtaş congratulated the team that organized the 1st National Interior Architecture Students Meeting and said, “We are a young university that trusts youth. In 2001, while establishing IUE, we thought of a student-oriented university that allocates laptop computers for each student.” IUE Board of Trustees President Demirtaş stated that they were constructing a new building for the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design as an indication of their trust in students and said that the building would be an anonymous study of the students and faculty academicians. Demirtaş stated that not an item, not even the doors in the building would be standard.
Chamber of Interior Architects General President Turhan Tektürk, Chamber of Interior Architects İzmir Branch Chairperson Filiz Ultav, Chamber of Architects İzmir Branch Chairperson Hasan Topal, Eskişehir Anadolu University Head of Department of Interior Architecture Assoc. Prof. Burak Kaptan and İzmir University of Economics Head of Department of Interior Architecture Asst. Prof. Markus Wilsing attended the first session as speakers. The problems of the sector, the similarities, and differences of architecture and interior architecture are introduced in the session.
In the second session, Cengiz Bektaş, Tevfik Balcıoğlu and Nilgün Çarkacı shared their ideas with the students in the session entitled The Borders of Architecture and Interior Architecture Professions. Cengiz Bektaş underlined the importance of teamwork with the examples in his own life. Bektaş told that while designing a place, the purpose of the place should be taken into consideration and designing procedure must be carried out with a good team and he underlined the fact that the profession of interior architecture had to interact with architecture and other disciplines.
İzmir University of Economics Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design emphasized the importance of indoors and said, "Interior Architecture is an architectural design discipline that does not deal with roof, groundwork, and façade.”
Famous designers like Doğan Hasol, Barbaros Şansal and Yalın Tan attended the event organized by IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students as speakers. Later, a cocktail took place in Alsancak Railroad Terminal with the contribution of Konak Municipality.
