A FASHION FAIRY STITCHED TO LIFE
Head of Department of Fashion Design Şölen Kipöz presented Esin Yılmaz as “A fashion fairy stitched to life” saying, "Yılmaz is a special designer who transfers the richness of the culture of Anatolia with clothes and who can turn each moment of design adventure into a play."
YILMAZ: “APPRECIATE WHAT IS REGIONAL”
Yılmaz told about her childhood in Beykoz, the boutique she opened in Nişantaşı and her decision about moving to İzmir in 1972 and opening a boutique in Alsancak. Yılmaz underlined the importance to make permanent works in fashion sector and stated that she adapted many details taken from Anatolian culture to daily clothes. Yılmaz told the designers of the future to add something from themselves to create and original language and said, “Appreciate what is regional.” To emphasize the richness of localness she told the lines of Bedri Rahmi saying, “Whenever I hear a folk song in a village, I feel ashamed of myself as a poet.”
