They Attended Model European Union Simulation
Model European Union is a project made up of delegations formed by the students coming from different countries and that each delegation represent a EU country in the European Council presidency of that term. The delegation students play the role of the minister or the prime minister of the country that they represent and they act in a way that is required by the character about decisions taken at the meetings, form of application, thesis defended, etc.
Our team who played the roles of Portuguese and Sweden Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Economics and Finance and diplomats had the chance to see how European Union works and what the directors of the member countries do. As our students Tuğçe Yıldız and Sercan Canbolat stated, international relations is a social science learned mostly theoretically and thus, the researchers in this field have difficulty in applying what they have learned.
However, Model EU organization provided an important opportunity for the students to practice the theoretical arguments. Our students learned the operation of the institutions of the European Union, the relations between the institutions, diplomacy methods, how to make decisions in the most rational and practical way for each condition encountered in diplomacy by experiencing them personally.
