MEMBRANE SPACES STUDIO
In the first stage of the studio, the students will design membrane systems with digital media and produce scaled models. In the second stage, they will design and construct a 1:1 prototype on the premises of IEU campus.
Michael U. Hensel is an architect, writer, researcher, and currently chairman of OCEAN. He is co-founder and co-director of the Emergent Technologies and Design Master Programme at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, Professor ‘Research by Design’ at AHO, the Oslo School of Architecture, and innovation fellow at the University of Technology in Sydney. Defne Sunguroğlu is an architect, principal researcher in OCEAN and innovation fellow at the University of Technology in Sydney.
OCEAN is an international, interdisciplinary and independent research network that conducts research by design in the intersection between architecture, urban, regional and landscape design, industrial and product design, computational science, biology, music, engineering, climatology and other disciplines and fields of inquiry. The OCEAN network was founded in 1994 and registered in Norway as a not-for-profit organisation in 2008. Research groups are located in Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Sydney and Tel Aviv with currently 20 members and principal researchers. By now, the network has conducted many workshops in collaboration with universities in Brazil, England, French, USA and Norway.
