Mathematics Show of the Students
Papers on the evolution of the Universe, Chemical evolution, and Biological evolution are presented in the symposium. Among the papers, the most interesting was the result of the survey about the Theory of Evolution made among the undergraduate students being educated in Biology Teaching. In the survey it is found out that 56% of them do not believe in the Theory of Evolution or they are doubtful. In this meeting an undergraduate student İzmir University of Economics Department of Mathematics 2nd grade student Seçil Ural presented a paper for the first time on “The Evolution of Mathematical Thinking” with her teacher Assoc. Prof. Ünal Ufuktepe. At night the people in Foça observed stars with telescope, in day time astronomy lecturers organized conversations in the schools on universe.
In the end of the symposium, the scientific activity which became a tradition was undertaken by Mathematics Thought Show Group made up of İzmir University of Economics Department of Mathematics students Seçil Ural, Irmak Yaka, Department of Computer Engineering students Onur Çağrıcı and Ekincan Ufuktepe. The musical mathematics show attended by Foça District Governor Kamil Köten and the high school students of the district won recognition.
