TRIP TO NASA
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is opening the doors of a new world for students with a technological revolution. The process of reality, developed via computer software and turned into three dimensional, will come to life in Izmir University of Economics’ new promotional campaign. Izmir University of Economics, with its new campaign called “Augmented Reality Application (IUE AR)”, is holding a stunning contest in social media. The University will be sending one lucky contestant to take the most creative picture with the 3 dimensional rocket that will appear in the first stage of “To NASA with Izmir Economics” titled instagram contest, to NASA Space Station in America.
You can have more detailed information about the camping when you install the application on your smart phones or equipment. The campaign, with its slogan “Waiting for Youth to Construct the Future” is calling out the youth to construct the future together by using a space theme.
Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, called attention to the importance of education culture that feeds into innovation. Demirtaş said, “We used technological developments in our new promotional campaign about the university. The graduates developed ‘augmented reality’ application at Kidolindo, company founded by Eda Evdüzen within Izmir Bilimpark within the body of Embriyonix incubation center. This way Izmir University of Economics aims for students to open the doors of the future via new technology in a fun way. A 3 dimensional rocket is designed in the first stage of the campaign for generations who will be constructing the future. We will also be sending one student, to take the most creative picture in the contest, to NASA.”
‘3 Million Dollar Smart Campus’
President Demirtaş, who indicated that they displayed the example of innovative use of digital technologies at Izmir Economics, said, “We put through the ‘Smart Campus’ Project with 3 million dollar investment for the new academic year. We are producing graduates who can generate knowledge, and can look into the future with confidence. We came up with a structure that is completely compatible with learning styles of new generations. This system, in terms of scope and content, is not available in any other university. We integrated different education technologies in order to allow students to have access to information from one access point.”
What is Augmented Reality Application?
Augmented Reality, abbreviated as AR, is the integration of digital information with live video or the user's environment in real time. An augmented reality system generates a composite view for the user that is the combination of the real scene viewed by the user and a virtual scene generated by the computer that augments the scene with additional information. The virtual scene generated by the computer is designed to enhance the user's sensory perception of the virtual world they are seeing or interacting with.
Military technologies lie behind augmented reality application as they do in many other technologies. First apps were used in simulations where soldiers detect mines.
How does it work?
‘IUE AR’ app will be installed on smart phones via Apple Store or Google Play for free. After you start the application, position your smart phone on the images of Izmir University of Economics on billboards or printed media. You will see a 3 dimensional rocket. You can take a 360 degrees tour around the rocket and review the details. You can take your picture with the rocket and share it on social media. You can click on launch button to fly it. You are in charge of it in space. You can steer it by steering your phone or tablet. You can collect points by going through the departments and faculties you come across. You may get a print out of the images in the app and do the same thing.
