GENDER AND AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ARE DISCUSSED AT IUE
AKP Vice President and İzmir MP Nükhet Göksel Hotar, CHP İzmir MP Türkan Miçoğulları, MHP İstanbul MP Meral Akşener, Former Ministers of State for Women’s Affairs Güldal Akşit, Melda Bayer, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Attila Sezgin, Turkish Representative of European Women’s Lobby Selma Acuner, academicians and representatives of non-governmental organizations attended the symposium.
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Attila Sezgin pointed out that the universities should deal specifically with these subjects and make scientific studies, and said, “I believe that new thesis studies and offers for solution will be formed on supportive or preventive sides of gender and affirmative actions that are being discussed not only in Turkey but also in the whole world. The attendance of the academicians from other continents to this symposium shows how much importance they attach to this subject. We are preparing to establish a Research Center at our University on this subject.”
In her opening speech, Head of the Committee of the 2nd International Symposium, IUE lecturer Prof. Dr. Hülya Tütek thanked to 200 academicians from 12 countries, members of parliament, Former Ministers of State for Women’s Affairs and the representatives of non-governmental organizations for their presentations, views and attendance. Later, the principal speaker of the symposium J. Ann Tickner from South California University summarized the subject as “The negative action of the positive event”. Tickner emphasized that the most important thing that takes place is in practice, and said, “In practice, the women have to act as men in politics. The only reason why there are fewer women in politics is they themselves. Feminism is being postponed in international affairs.”
