CIRCUMCISION; LEAVE IT TO THE EXPERTS
The experts state that circumcision is a surgical operation and with the increasing number of circumcision parties in summer, the families should be on alert against the risk of infection and go to hospitals should that occur. Urology Specialist Dr. Yavuz Selim Süral, Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences, said that circumcision was not only a religious and cultural procedure, but a medical one that decreased the risk of bladder infection. He said “Circumcision is a surgical operation. When not done properly and hygienically, major infection risks may occur.”
Süral pointed out that circumcision prevented penile cancer and sexually transmitted diseases, and that it should be performed in an operation room. Süral also said that the new legal arrangements prevented anyone who is not an MD to perform circumcision. “Child development specialists recommend that the best time for children to be circumcised was before the age of 2 or after the age of 6 in order to avoid trauma. However, children who have urination problems and frequent bladder infections need to get circumcised regardless of their age,” stated Süral.
End the psychological and physical trauma!
Süral reported that children of all ages, excluding the new-borns, should be circumcised under general anaesthesia. Süral stated the following:
“The type of anaesthesia used in circumcision is a milder than the ones used in regular surgeries. Nobody has to hold and calm down the child in front of everyone. Plus, since the child is asleep, they are not subject to any psychological and physical trauma. After the surgery, the sutures just dissolve and any redness and swelling go away in ten days approximately and the child is able to resume daily activities.”
