FRENCH LANGUAGE MEDIUM TO BECOME A PART OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
With English being the medium of instruction, a second foreign language is a requirement for the students. French is one of the languages offered at the School of Foreign Languages, especially for the students of International Affairs and European Union Department and Translation and Interpretation department.
Upon their visit to the Izmir Economic University the French delegation received information on the cooperative efforts between the two countries on French language instruction. French Ambassador Bernard Emié; Cultural Attaché Stanislas Pierret; French Consul General, Christine Moro; Education Attaché, Jean Marie Puget and Affiliation Attaché for French, Gérard Gréverand all met with Rector Professor Doctor Atilla Sezgin and Second Foreign Languages Coordinator, Başak Çiftçioğlu and French instructors at the university. During the meeting it was determined that arrangements will be made to open new French medium departments. Committees were formed to clarify the details of the affiliation. First of all during the affiliation with the Marc Bloch and our university, the initial step will be to conduct research of feasibility of implementing the French language into the International Affairs and European Union Department and Translation and Interpretation Department. After this, academicians who can perform the instruction in the French language will be sought.
Professor Doctor Atilla Sezgin thanked the French Ambassador for his courteous visit and added that he would be very happy to be working together. Professor Doctor Atilla Sezgin stated that the Izmir Economic University and French universities work together under the strict international affiliation guidelines. Students educated under the new program will be better equipped in French language than ever before.
