LAWYERS WILL BECOME SPECIALIZED AT IUE

Increasing disputes due to developments in trade will be resolved more quickly by the lawyers who will get expertise at “Special Law” graduate degree program offered within the Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Graduate School of Social Sciences. The lawyers will get specialized in trade law, law of obligations, civil law, maritime law, and business law, and find solutions to legal problems of the business world.
Those who completed their undergraduate studies in law will be able to apply to the graduate program where students will be enrolled for the first time this year. The program offers thesis and non-thesis options, and it will allow 40 students to act as arbitrators, in disputes the companies are faced with, in an applied education they will receive. The students will get specialized in trade and business law at the program where national and international law rules will be studied in details.
Prof. Dr. Huriye Kubilay, The Dean of IUE Faculty of Law, pointed out that the number of disputes increased due to developments in trade. She said, “Experts are in big demand. 40 students (20 with thesis, 20 without thesis) will start the program. Attorneys, judges, legal advisors, and anyone who completes the Faculty of Law will become the experts that are demanded by the business world through this program.”
Prof. Dr. Kubilay stated that those who completed the program would be able to warn the business world against the possible risks they may be faced with, and resolve disputes through arbitration. She said the education would be based on national and international principles of law. Prof. Dr. Kubilay stated the following:
"We are face to face with many procedures in many areas such as international purchases contracts, disputes between parties, land and sea transport, etc. These areas require expertise. Our program fills a void in this area. On the other hand, we provide arbitration in disputes due to compulsory or optional insurances. Our graduates will be able to serve as insurance arbitrators. We will also study insurance applications of European Union legislation. The students in this program will have applied training.”
