THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD
The exhibition in which the children will reflect the spaces and social environments they choose through photograph will be open on November.
In the phase that took place in Turkey, Australia Wollongong University Assistant Dean of Faculty of Education Assoc. Prof. Ian Brown, Pauline Lysaght and Ros Westbrook and İzmir University of Economics Head of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Asst. Prof. Deniz Hasırcı carried out the project collectively nd undergraduate and graduate students worked voluntarily.
In the project carried out under the leadership of Işıkkent Education Campus Head of Department of Painting Umut Karatepe and Behçet Uz Children’s Hospital School Principal Nezih Yaşar Bor, the students in these schools were the focal point and 32 cameras sent from Australia are delivered to the children. The students took photographs of their environment, friends and families through the eyes of a child. The students also answered the questions of a survey prepared particularly for Turkey.
The photographs will come together in the exhibition
Countries like Australia, Thailand, America, India, and Malaysia supported the project that more than 400 children took place until today. The exhibition consisting of the photographs of the children is planned to be open on November. Asst. Prof. Deniz Hasırcı stated that the project was organized for the first time in Turkey and said, "This project created an impression throughout the world. The children take the photographs of the world they see. The thing underlying the project is to make the children reflect their physical and social environments through photography and writing. In the exhibition planned to take place on November, IUE students, students in the two schools and their families together with the Australian crew will take place.”

Asst. Prof. Hasırcı underlined that the surveys and the photographs taken by the students were very impressive and said, “The results in this project carried out collectively by Australia Wollongong University Faculty of Education is very spectacular. This study took place in “Illawarra Mercury” newspaper in Australia. Both the students that took the photographs and the graduate and undergraduate students enjoyed the project. A beautiful photography document is composed for our country. Both the surveys and the photographs are spectacular. The survey results are being evaluated and translated in to English now. We had chosen two different schools to observe the results. We received very good results. A team is formed at our University that deals with children and design. ıt is very pleasing too.”
