'Smart' project for mediation
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Computer Programming carried out a project to use the 'mediation' method, which allows legal disputes between individuals to be resolved in a short time, in a digital environment more easily. Starting from the idea that a special software can be created using Blockchain and artificial intelligence, which is a new generation data retention system, IUE students designed a new model that will carry many basic processes in the mediation system to digital.
Determining how the software will be prepared and what it will cover, the students created a comprehensive roadmap for their project called “Reconciliation smart contract”. Asst. Prof. Dr. Nejat Kutup from IUE Vocational School Computer Programming said, “The mediation system is very important, it is an effective method in resolving disputes. We wanted to make a project that would contribute to the mediation system with students. We can complete the software, which saves time and increases data security, in about 2-3 months.”
IT WILL BE RECORDED
Explaining the details of the project, which is planned to be carried out on the blockchain, with examples, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kutup said, “Blockchain is not an online meeting platform. The parties must first contact the relevant mediator. The advantage of the system starts after that. The mediator, who receives the necessary information about the settlement proposal, will notify the parties through the contract and the first record of the Blockchain chain structure will be created. The mediator will be able to send the proposal via Blockchain and the information will be kept in the system. The legal consequences of rejecting the offer or accepting the reconciliation will also be recorded. The party will indicate whether or not to accept the offer in the form of an e-signature over the proposal.”
IT WILL SAVE TIME
Asst. Prof. Dr. Kutup continued as follows: “Since the parties and the mediator will carry out many official procedures through this system after the first meeting, costly procedures will decrease. Both the parties involved in the reconciliation and the mediator will save time. Official procedures will be completed in minutes, easily. Thanks to the project, non-priority data such as dates and document numbers will be eliminated. If a similar case comes on the same issue, a search will be made with artificial intelligence methods, and the result will be reached in a transparently and very short time.” The project was prepared by IUE Vocational School Computer Programming students Emel Tatlıdede, Salih Coşkun, Cumhur Gülsatan, Efecan Özderici, Zeki Ege Kara and Eren Şimşek, within the scope of the 'Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence' course.
WHAT IS MEDIATION?
Mediation is a method of 'alternative dispute resolution' that is widely used in countries with developed legal systems. It is a method that parties can use to resolve their disputes with the help of an impartial third party, without going to court or by court referral.
