From University to Career
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has added a new project to the projects it has developed to create opportunities for students by getting acquainted with the real business world before they graduate. IUE, which offers many of its students the opportunity to enter business life without obtaining a diploma with the 'Guaranteed Internship' project, which it started two years ago, will now carry out a training series with the aim of enabling young people to perform their internships in the most efficient way.
5 TOPICS
Within the scope of the project, which is implemented with the slogan of ‘From University to Career’, approximately 2 thousand students who will perform their internship this year will be given "productive internship training" consisting of 5 topics between 7-17 February. Young people, who will receive training on 'self-knowledge and goal setting', 'preliminary preparation for work life', 'effective resume writing', 'tips for a productive internship period' and 'effective life skills, spiritual resilience', will turn internship into an opportunity.
WILL BE HELD ONLINE
Certificates will also be given to students who participate in trainings to be held online due to the pandemic. Trainings will be conducted by Seda Akman, Director of Human Resources and Management Systems, Izmir Chamber of Commerce (İZTO), Asst. Prof. Dr. Nevra Ersoy from IUE Department of Psychology, Psychiatrist Osman Seçkin, IUE Career Center Coordinator Fulya Alagöz, and Sevgi Tunalı Kabaçalı from İŞKUR Bornova Business Club.
WE ARE CONSTANTLY UPDATING
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar stated that the project is of great importance for students to spend their internship periods productively and informed. Stating that they want the companies to get the highest efficiency from the interns, Prof. Dr. Aşkar said, “We are in a period where competition is increasing rapidly, and information is gaining importance by developing day by day. As a university, we follow all these developments closely and update our curriculum accordingly. In line with the requirements and demands of the age, we are raising young people who are fluent in English, who take reason and science as their guide, who are not content with what they have learned but constantly question. While doing all these, we also produce projects so that our students get to know the business life before they graduate, spend the internship period effectively, and thus stay ahead of their peers. The last training series was a good example of this.”
IT WILL OPEN NEW DOORS
Prof. Dr. Aşkar continued as follows: “According to research, companies get to know a significant part of the people they choose as teammates during their internship period. Internship is also an opportunity for students to show themselves with their skills and knowledge. As a university, we have provided and continue to provide many advantages to students regarding internships with the support of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce. We pave the way for students to perform internships in the companies they request. We direct them to the companies that are most suitable for them. We become a bridge between young people and the business world. This is the summary of the 'Guaranteed internship' project that we are carrying out as a university. The training series to be held in February will also help students to make the most of the internship advantage and open new doors for themselves.”
IUE Corporate Communications Director Pelin Süzen stated that they are working on new projects that will increase the communication of young people with the business world, and that they have created a comprehensive plan spread throughout the year with this goal. Noting that companies need a young and qualified workforce, Süzen stated that they will continue to organize events that meet the demands of both companies and young people. Süzen said, “The training series, which will be carried out by experienced people who are experts in their fields, will be an event that reveals the difference of our university and guides our students."
