Special 216-piece collection for environmental fashion
Izmir University of Economics (IEU) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design collaborated with Sun Tekstil to raise awareness about giving priority to environmentally friendly and sustainable designs against the consumption frenzy in fashion. 18 students who will graduate from IUE Department of Textile and Fashion Design this year have created a special collection of 216 garments within the scope of the project called "Looking to the Future". Sun Tekstil also opened its doors to students and provided fabric and accessory support, undertaking the production of 18 special designs prepared by young people. Collaboration, which sets an example for university-city integration, is also reflected in education. Senior executives at Sun Tekstil conveyed their knowledge and experience to the students by being guests of classes every Friday for 8 weeks.
FASHION SHOW OR EXHIBITION IS PLANNED
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arzu Vuruşkan from IUE Department of Textile and Fashion Design stated that the designs prepared by the students will be presented to the taste of the whole city with a fashion show or an exhibition planned to be held this summer. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vuruşkan said, “Sun Tekstil is one of the leading brands of our country in the field of ready-to-wear. This collaboration was an opportunity for our students studying in our department. During the period when we spent time at home due to the pandemic, students met with Sun Tekstil's managers at the classes, asked what they were curious about, and had the opportunity to gain a professional perspective. Students visited Sun Tekstil's production sites and gained experience in this respect. 18 students, who will graduate this year, prepared collections of 216 appearances in total. Students, who address the topic of sustainability from a very broad perspective, implemented designs that are sizeless, can change shape with different functional structures, adopt the zero-waste principle, and consist of natural materials.”
CREATIVITY, DESIGN, AND INNOVATION
Melis Vekiloğlu, General Manager of Sun Tekstil said, “Our corporate culture dedicated to sustainability is based on creativity, design and innovation. Sun Tekstil organizes internship and talent programs to prepare university students with high competencies and potential, who aim to improve themselves, for business and to contribute to their professional development. Meeting with Izmir University of Economics students and conveying our knowledge of sustainable fashion to new generation fashion designers makes us very happy.” Vekiloğlu stated that they had the opportunity to get to know the fashion designers, whom they could incorporate in the future, while they were still students, and stated that they aim to continue the collaboration by expanding in the coming years.
