‘Face shields’ for virus fighters
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) started to produce “face shields” to protect healthcare professionals who have been working tirelessly day and night against coronavirus (Covid-19). The product, made of rubber and acetate, prepared by 3-D printers, will minimize the risk of spreading since it covers the face entirely. The face shields, which provide clear vision and does not cause any comfort while wearing, will be sent to the healthcare professionals as soon as possible. Healthcare professionals will be able to use the shields as they work and put the shields on and off easily due to its elasticity.
Argun Tanrıverdi, Workshop Supervisor at IUE Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, pointed that healthcare professionals show great effort and work tirelessly during the fight against the coronavirus, and said that the University wanted to support them through this project.
“THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR ALL OF US”
Tanrıverdi said, “We had great amount of materials we kept for students to use. We thought about how to use these efficiently. We decided to make face shields for healthcare professionals by using 3D printers. Thanks to the technological facilities of the University, we started production right away and we continue to do so every day. We don’t have a specific number in mind, we just want to produce as many as we can. Each face shield we produce will be sent to a healthcare professional and allow them to work in a much safer way. Healthcare professionals are fighting for all of us in such a heroic way. They are trying to overcome difficulties and help us heal. It makes us very happy to support healthcare professionals to some extent who work selflessly and religiously on such an important task.”
