PROSPECTIVE LOGISTICIANS TAKING THE BUSINESS WORLD BY STORM
Students of Department of Logistics Management, Faculty of Business, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), are developing projects for university-industry collaboration, and coming up with solution recommendations for logistic concerns of companies. Students designed applicable solution recommendations for real life problems such as planning, operation, warehousing, marketing, production, and transportation as part of the “10th University - Industry Collaboration” event.
The event started with opening speeches by Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, Founding Faculty Member of Department of Logistics Management, and Prof. Dr. Hasan Fehmi Baklacı, Acting Dean of Faculty of Business. In his speech, Erkan Balcı, General Manager of Aegean Region for TAV Airports Holding, a major sponsor to the event, stated that university-industry collaboration allowed students to turn their theoretical knowledge into practice before they graduated.
The "Logistics – Value Chain" titled conference was held as part of the event. Along Balcı, Merve Arslan, Director of PepsiCo Customer Services and Logistics Collaboration, Tolga Irmak, Coordinator of Supply Chain Customer Services, Sibel Altekin, Purchasing Manager of Procter and Gamble, Ezgi Poyraz, Director of Seago Line Customer Services, Duygu Kayacık, Logistics Director of Vodafone, and Burak Özkan, Regional Sales Manager of Red Bull also attended the event as guest speakers.
Students got full marks from the companies for the presentations of their projects supervised by Assoc. Prof. Özgür Özpeynirci, Assoc. Prof. Muhittin Hakan Demir, Assoc. Prof. Bengü Sevil Oflaç, Assoc. Prof. Işık Özge Yumurtacı Hüseyinoğlu, Asst. Prof. Qing Lu, Asst. Prof. Aysu Göçer, and Dr. Sinem Tokçaer. Among the audience of the presentations was representatives from companies such as TAV, PepsiCo, Procter and Gamble, Seago Line, Vodafone, Red Bull, etc.
As a result of the assessments, the “Sustainable Logistics Planning Project for Izmir Historic City Center” came in first place. The project was co-coordinated by Tarkem & Mall Logistics and students Mehmet Anıl Özcan, Gülcan İncu, Yağızer Kutay Atalay, Emir Yıldız, Anıl Mert Demirel, Can Çevik, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Muhittin Hakan Demir of IUE Department of Logistics Management.
The “Havi Logistics Model: Redesigning a Warehouse for Frozen Food and Improvement of Loading Procedures” titled project by students Onur Alakuş, Ahmet Tahsin Tan, Elif Ülkemen, Erva Özyaman, Zehra Erbölükbaş, and Nilay Çetin, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Qing Lu, and co-coordinated by Havi Logistics, came in second place.
And, the “Whirlpool Model: Enhancement of Distribution Channels in White Appliances Industry” titled project by students Hande Kurtuluş, Büşra Halıcı, Barışcan Şeker, Yağmur Ezgi Özkara, Çağla Hacıoğlu, and Hanife Ergin, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Işık Özge Yumurtacı Hüseyinoğlu, and co-coordinated by Whirlpool, came in third place.
