Students will carry out their social responsibility projects through collaboration with universities in the European Union (EU). As part of an EU project, partnered by Izmir University of Economics, students who enroll in “Social Entrepreneurship and Corporate Social Responsibility” course will both carry out their own social projects and work with businesses in this field.
The participants in the EU project, titled “Business Education for Sustainability: Teaching Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Local and Regional Development” led by International Management Institute in Bulgaria, include universities from the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, Spain and Lithuania as well as Izmir University of Economics from Turkey.
Prof. Dr. Hasan Fehmi Baklacı, the Dean of the Faculty of Business at IUE said that they have completed the three-year-project and that students who wish to take social responsibility and entrepreneurship classes online will be able to register on http://education4sustainability.eu/. Prof. Dr. Baklacı said that they have collaborated with Research Assistants Cansu Tayaksi and Esra Onater in the project within the Erasmus+ framework and added: “We aimed to integrate social entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility topics into business administration, economics and entrepreneurship training. In order to do this, we have developed an innovative syllabus. Our aim is to increase the level of training in this field both within the university and the society in general. We are planning to offer the courses to all departments as GEC courses. Our priority is to provide our students with internship opportunities in the institutions operating in this field. As such, we wish to contribute towards increasing the level of consciousness in social entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility.”
Indicating that educators from all countries can provide in-class or online training, Prof. Baklacı added “Our students will receive training courses on corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. These courses will raise our students’ awareness. They will learn about national and international practices in the field and be able to carry out their own social projects correctly, based on the principle of complete utility. Therefore, they will be able to partake in initiatives that are beneficial both economically and socially.
