STATES OF WOMANHOOD TALKS
In the speech that he evaluated “the states of women at home", Assoc. Prof. Aksu BORA talked about the family structure, the place of woman in this family, the responsibilities of the woman and the obstacles that the women encounter while opening up to the outer world.
The talks continued with the speech of Prof. Dr. Eser KÖKER from Ankara University in which he evaluated the maternal role of the women. He told that motherhood was a difficult process that exhausts the women biologically, physically and psychologically, and the moment of birth was not as pleasant and emotional as the photographers reflect or the atmosphere created by the people around the mother. Prof. Dr. Köker said, “The birth process is very painful and the baby does not look beautiful with the sticky liquid on it.”
He said that he accepted the emotional side of motherhood but it was being exaggerated and it put a pressure on the women. Prof. Dr. Köker talked about the personality traits imposed on women with motherhood and said, “People say mothers are charitable, compassionate but these are the features of the people, they are not used just for women."
Prof. Dr. Köker mentioned about abortion too. He said that abortion law was introduced in the scope of September 12 laws but this was just to control population and for the sake of family planning. It did not contain any moral or unmoral values, the physical or psychological problems that the women could encounter were not mentioned, and no suggestions were made.
Prof. Dr. Köker claimed that 7 of 10 people that gave interviews for the TV for March 8 would say education is compulsory but he did not want to hear that sentence anymore because the main thing was not the education of women. He said, “I know that in some universities the academicians are yelling these words. But it is wrong.” The state of women in life was related to the education of men.
