Translation by 9 students in 3 languages
Nine students studying at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) translated for the athletes participating in the 57th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, one of the most prestigious international sports organizations of our country. IUE students who learn advanced level of Spanish, Italian and French as a second foreign language in addition to English, told athletes from different countries about Izmir, enabling them to communicate easily with their surroundings. Young people from IUE, who were with the international athletes during the day, had the opportunity to develop themselves and to create a network of people.
STUDENTS FROM DIFFERENT MAJORS
Students, who are majoring in different fields such as Psychology, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Aerospace Engineering, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Political Science and International Relations, English Translation and Interpretation have also proven their success in the second foreign language skills. The Spanish translation was done by Fatma Merve Şahin, İlker Deniz Önen, Beliz Özalp and Erkan Akdemir; Italian translation was done by Ümran Demirci, Atakan Dikmenoğlu and Lerzan Çalışkan, and French translation was done by Özgür Ceyhan and Deniz Tarhan in the huge event, which was followed with great excitement interest by local and foreign tourists.
THEY PROVED HOW WELL THEY WERE TRAINED
Mehmet Şenbağcı, Second Foreign Languages Liaison Officer at IUE and Lecturer in the Spanish Department, said that the students made them proud by successfully taking part in such an important organization. Şenbağcı said, “We provide students with the opportunity to learn a second foreign language they want among 7 different languages besides English. In this way, students graduate from the University by speaking English very well and speaking a second foreign language fluently thus being preferred by international companies, creating new opportunities for themselves. Students, translated for the athletes taking part in the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, proved how well they trained themselves and successfully fulfilled their duties.
