The duo won a prize of 5 thousand liras for the project they developed. With their project called "Metaclay", they aim to introduce new opportunities to the village people, who make a living with the products they produce using clay, with the virtual world.
Meriç Kösetorunu (22), who studied Mechatronics Engineering and Industrial Engineering together by taking advantage of the double major opportunities provided by Izmir University of Economics, competed together with his friend Doğukan Baldan (22) who is a student at Istanbul University Department of International Trade and Logistics Management, to put forward the most creative idea. The young team managed to attract the attention of the jury with the innovative ideas they proposed by bringing the workforce and virtual technology together at the event held at the EGIAD Association Center on February 19-20. Kösetorunu and Baldan, who won the first place among ambitious projects, felt great pride.
NEW OPPORTUNITY WITH VIRTUAL COPY
Giving information about the project, Meriç Kösetorunu said, “The subject of the idea marathon was to produce innovative ideas for the village people who make a living with clay products. It was emphasized that the access to clay was restricted and therefore the villagers had difficulty in earning income. It is possible to produce many products using clay. Ceramics is also one of them. In our project, we conveyed that every ceramic produced by the villagers can be produced exactly on the virtual platform with the help of NFT technology. We emphasized that thanks to the virtual copy, a new type of income will be available for the villagers. We wanted to point out that it would not be difficult for the products, produced by the villagers by spending great effort and time, to meet the virtual world. We are very happy that we were successful in this as well.”
IMPORTANT FOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Stating that the idea marathon they participated in also contributed greatly to their personal development, Baldan said, “This event was a good experience and excitement for us. Our goal was to spend a self-helping, brainstorming weekend. Other teams also made good suggestions. However, being selected first by the jury was of course a source of pride for us. We will continue to take part in such programs in the coming period.” The Ideathon Idea Marathon was organized by EGIAD Youth Commission, with the support of EGIAD and in cooperation with IUE Creative Economy Research and Application Center, Imaginarium XR and Spectacled Tales.
