IUE students will oversee data analytics!
Data analyzing will be among the professions of the future. Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Business, which offers education to its students based on the understanding of excellence in education, will teach students data analytics literacy and data analytics, which would be a first in Turkey.
Prof. Mehmet Gençer, Lecturer at IUE Faculty of Business, Department of Business Administration, came together with graduates and students on an online platform due to the coronavirus epidemic within the scope of "Campus-Izmir Talks". He gave a seminar titled "Digital Transformation" in the "Online Seminar Series" organized by the Graduate School. Emphasizing that digital transformation starts with data collection and data processing gains importance, which requires qualified workforce, Prof. Gençer said, “Digital experience has entered our lives intensely. Now, customers are also a part of business processes. When you place an online order, you do many transactions that the sales representative should do, or you can replace a person working in the institution while making a transaction from the e-government. Digital transformation has become a part of our lives. Transformation begins with data collection."
Good processing of data takes us step ahead
Noting that the data being collected and converted into reports is not enough anymore, Prof. Gençer said, “When you process the data and convert it into a report, you see the overall scheme. The more data is processed, the more reports will be produced. Processing data and reports creates value. However, it is necessary to go beyond reporting and predict the future. Data analytics plays a role in creating models that give us the power to predict the future. Qualified workforce is necessary in this field. Businesses are looking for staff with high digital skills. We are experiencing a data literacy problem. Our students need to learn how to use data. Data analyzing gains importance among the professions of the future. We will also teach data literacy and data analytics lessons to our students as of the second year, making it a first in the Faculty of Business.”
