Communication professionals will meet at the international symposium
Leading communication professionals of Turkey will meet at the 2nd International Symposium on Communication in the Digital Age hosted by Izmir University of Economics (IUE). The symposium to be held in cooperation with the IUE Faculty of Communication, Communication Faculty Deans Council (ILDEK) and Communication Research Association (ILAD) will be held online between 26-28 October 2020.
The opening speeches of the international symposium this year will be made by Prof. Guda Van Noort from the University of Antwerp, Prof. Philippe Meers and Dr. Ece Algan, who attract attention with their work in the field of communication. “Sessions on international article writing will be held for young academics of communication field at the symposium, which aims to bring together different disciplines and approaches in communication studies with the theme of “Continuities and Interruptions”. Changes in communication channels will be discussed

Stating that the event will be held with the support of all communication faculties in Turkey, Prof. Ebru Uzunoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Izmir University of Economics, said, “We did not give up the symposium due to the Covid-19 epidemic we experienced worldwide this year and carried our event to the virtual platform. We are experiencing numerous breaks and changes in social life and communication technologies. We also witness the existence of phenomenon that are not affected by these changes. In this context, many methods, models, approaches, theories and currents of thought persistently retain their validity and importance today. Researchers and practitioners from different disciplines and approaches will reveal their research within the scope of communication studies in the symposium we will hold with the theme of ‘Continuities and Interruptions’”.
PAPERS WILL BE PUBLISHED IN A REFEREED JOURNAL
Stating that the first symposium was held last year and that it will be hosted by a different university every year, Prof. Uzunoğlu said that the event has reached an international dimension with the initiatives of Izmir University of Economics. Pointing out that communication processes are an indispensable part of modern societies, and they bring about changes in political, cultural, social and sectoral fields, Prof. Uzunoglu said, “The digital age we are experiencing is bringing us brand new media ecologies that require innovative methods and perspectives. We will discuss both new processes and communication channels that resist change in the symposium. Selected papers presented at the symposium will be published in two journals with ESCI indexing. For this reason, we ask the researchers participating in the symposium to submit their applications at https://cida2020.ieu.edu.tr/tr/ address.”
