IUE students did not forget the elderly on Mother's Day
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Student Council celebrated the “Mother’s Day” of the elderly staying in nursing homes who could not go outside for a long time due to the coronavirus. IUE students delivered the 42 houseplants, they obtained in collaboration with the 5th professional group, ‘Ornamental Plants, Landscaping and Pets Group’ of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, to the Family and Social Policies Izmir Provincial Directorate to be presented to the elderly.
Due to the curfew imposed on the Sunday when Mother's Day will be celebrated, the flowers to be gifted to the elderly at Şehit Asteğmen Adem Dertsiz Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bayraklı will be delivered by the center authorities. The colorful flowers were attached a card that read, “Each of you are our plane trees, where we learned a lot even by standing in your shadow. This year, due to the epidemic, we could not come visit you. We wanted to show our love by filling your arms with flowers. Have a happy Mother’s Day.”
“WE CANNOT EVER REPAY OUR MOTHERS”
Buğra Kaan Günay, President of IUE Student Council, pointed out that the whole course of coronavirus affected the elderly the most, and they wanted to lift their spirits up by sending them flowers. Günay said, “We, the IUE Student Council, wanted to fill the laps of mothers with flowers as we could not go visit and chat with them due to the epidemic. We attached our notes to the flowerpots and delivered them to the Family and Social Policies Izmir Provincial Directorate. We cannot ever repay our mothers self-sacrifice, kindness, and love no matter what we do. I believe that we will overcome this epidemic as soon as possible. We will reach the days when we will be together with our elderly and spend time with them as much as they like. I would like to take this opportunity to wish a happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers.”
