Üstünes said, “It is very significant to make sure that quality buildings, which have certain credentials, that witnessed history, are brought back to life with new functions in line with the needs of present time. Such projects studies, which we can call as re-functionalization of historical buildings, are very important as they allow students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice.”
“ALL DETAILS CONSIDERED”
Üstünes stated the following: “These projects allow us to raise awareness among local administrations and public on how quality structures in Izmir would be recovered. For that purpose, each week, 22 of our students went to the historical building and worked on projects. Through field trips and studio courses, they came up with a planning that is necessary for utilizing each meter square and what to take into consideration in turning a historical building into art and culture center. We thought about all the details thoroughly and completed our project. We will continue to take part in projects that add value to our city in the coming semester.”
