This fact that is being recognized in our country requires graduates to have a command of laboratory techniques and thus the research methods in psychology.”
The researches made by the students of Department of Psychology are presented in the lobby of the university as poster presentations appropriate to scientific criteria. The research subjects are chosen among the subheadings of psychology such as social psychology, experimental psychology, physiological psychology and psychotechnics.
In the research entitled “Analyzing the Relation between Psychotechnical Adequacy and Attitude of Taking Risks” in which psychotechnical applications are handled, the relation between the psychotechnical adequacy level in driver attitudes and the risky behavior in the traffic is analyzed. As a result, it is seen that the drivers whose driving skills increase have more self-confidence and take more risks so their rate to involve in an accident increase.
A project entitled “Analyzing the duration of the reaction given to women that have different attraction levels due to waist-hip proportion” is presented in the subject about the relation between waist-hip proportion and physical attraction, which is a lively field in current psychology literature. Department of Psychology lecturer Assoc. Prof. Hakan Çetinkaya that gave information about the research said, “In this research, the duration of the men’s evaluating the different attraction levels are analyzed. The time that the men react to different waist-hip proportions and body weights is calculated. It is found out that there is a privatized module in men that catches attractive women. At the end of the research, it is seen that the men notice beautiful and attractive women more quickly.” Çetinkaya stated that although the weights of the women differ from country to country, culture to culture, the weight-hip proportion is expected to be 0.7. He said, “In West, the women with normal weight are found attractive but in our country there is tendency to thin women. 0.7 waist-hip proportion is a proportion accepted throughout the world. The risk to catch heart, cancer, and obesity illnesses is less in women who has this proportion and they are fertile. That’s why the men find women who are better wives for themselves more attractive.”
Assoc. Prof. Hakan Çetinkaya pointed out that making such kind of projects prevalent is directly beneficial for the increase in the education quality at the universities.
