WIND OF ‘NEW ROMANTICISM’ ON THE RUNWAY
Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) presented their designs of 2018 at Agora Shopping Mall. 70 unique designs of 21 students were showcased on the runway under the title of New Romanticism” by IUE models.
Among the audience to watch the fashion show was Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees,IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Şimga Muğan, Prof. Dr. Ender Yazgan Bulgun, Dean of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Asuman Nardalı, Member of IUE Board of Trustees, IUE Secretary General Levent Gökçeer, and guests.
“Shirt Designs” of sophomore students and “Conceptual Deconstruction” of junior students, and Lecturer Jörn Fröhlich’s, “PSA – Conceptual Couture Collection” titled collection of 14 pieces, were also displayed as part of the show. 4th year students design, “New Romanticism” mesmerized the audience.
Dean, Prof. Dr. Ender Yazgan Bulgun stated that they had been organizing senior project fashion show at the shopping mall for 5 years, and said that this year’s collection, “New Romantic – Nightmares and Dreams” attracted great attention. 2018-fashion is a combination of powerful romantic collections celebrating combination of styles from different cultures and different times, reported Prof. Dr. Bulgun and said that the fashion show was co-choreographed by Lecturers Başak Gürsoy and Jörn Fröhlich.
Prof. Dr. Bulgun said, “4th year students prepared for the fashion show in design studio course under the guidance of lecturer Jörn Fröhlich. 2018-fashion is positive, colorful, and free. Fabrics and colors were matched by being compared to unlimited combinations. 3rd year students prepared for the fashion show on conceptual deconstruction in design studio course under the guidance of Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şölen Kipöz. 2nd year students created shirt designs with textile fabrics on a red color palette coordinated by Lecturer Angela Burns, and under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Ebru Corsini.”
