IZMIR WILL GAIN ‘IDENTITY’
Izmir’s visual identity will be discussed at a workshop organized by Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Visual Communication Design and led by Stefano Cardini, Course Leader of Domus Academy Visual Brand Design. Designers will discuss Izmir at the workshop that will start on 26 November at 10.00 at D Block and end on 28 November.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Arda, Head of IUE Department of Visual Communication Design, stated that the workshop focused on a subject closely related to Izmir and the city’s visual identity. “Izmir came in second place after Milan among the cities competing to host EXPO 2015. However, this should not stop designers to debate on Izmir’s visual identity. Izmir will not be hosting EXPO 2015 but is hosting EXPO is a tool or an objective for those competing cities? Can this picture, which initially looks like something negative, turn into something positive when approached in terms of visual communication design tools? We will be searching answers to questions as how new ideas on Izmir’s branding process as a city and its visual identity can have a positive effect on the city’s recognition in the international arena,” said Arda.
She said that branding and identity studies were important in terms of Izmir to get recognition in the international arena. Arda said, “Throughout the workshop, we aim to come up with a visitor scenario which feeds on Izmir’s traditions and rituals with a target group identified, and design a mobile application based on that. We will be working on posters and brochures as part of the project.”
