REGULATION ON DIGITAL EDUCATION SUPPORT IN COURSES


SECTION ONE

Purpose, Scope, and Definitions

 

Purpose

Article 1- The purpose of this regulation is to set out the procedures and principles regarding the implementation of digital education support to be provided to students in associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs conducted at Izmir University of Economics.

 

Purpose

Article 2- This regulation comprises the rules regarding live streaming classes, class capture, uploading course materials and enabling student access, assigning homework and conducting quizzes online, and copyrights  as part of digital education support to be provided to students in associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs conducted at Izmir University of Economics.

 

Purpose

Article 3- The references in this regulation are as follows;

(a) University/IUE: Izmir University of Economics,

(b) Learning Management System (LMS): System which allows live streaming classes, class capture, uploading course materials and enabling student access, assigning homework and conducting quizzes online, and copyrights  as part of digital education support to be provided to students in associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs conducted at Izmir University of Economics,

(c) Digitally Supported Education: Education which involves offering course materials on learning management system and enabling student access, live streaming classes, class capture, assigning homework and conducting quizzes online, student guidance based on monitoring their learning process,

d) Course Materials Entered into the Learning Management System: Materials such as course videos, text books, class notes, auxiliary resources, presentations, and exam questions, etc.,

e) Supplier: Natural or legal person who provides or runs systems that embodies services or contents the University buys or the University buys services from,  

(f)  Content Provider: Natural or legal person who produces, changes, provides all kinds of information and data offered to users on Learning Management System.  

 

Attendance

Article 4- Providing live streaming classes is a support service for students of Izmir University of Economics. However, this service does not hinder the attendance rules the University implements.

 

SECTION TWO

Procedures and Principles on Digital Education Support

 

Entering Course Materials into Learning Management System and Access

Article 5- (1) A memorandum regarding the class capture is posted visibly in the respective classroom.

(2) Students gain access to course materials on Learning Management System with their passwords; however, they cannot record it. They cannot share it under any conditions. They cannot reproduce the course materials and use it for other purposes. Students sign an ethics declaration during initial registration at the University and receive their passwords. Students, who violate ethics declaration, will be legally liable. 

(3) Students’ access to course materials on Learning Management System is turned off following the re-take exams each semester, and all recordings are erased.

(4) Students, by signing the ethics declaration, agree that course videos are to be used for promotional purposes only during the time they are available for student access.

(5) Faculty members agree that course videos are to be used for promotional purposes only during the time they are available for student access.

(6) Faculty member is in charge of initiating the video recording process when the class begins.

 

Responsibilities

Article 6- (1) The University is not bound by opinions expressed by faculty members and students regarding the course materials on Learning Management System.

(2) Faculty members are required to act in accordance with the respective regulation on intellectual property rights during class.

(3)  Izmir University of Economics owns the copyrights of full-time and part-time faculty members on course materials on Learning Management System and the responsibility regarding this during the time these materials are broadcasted.

(4) Responsibilities of the supplier and the content provider are subject to the articles of Law No.5651 on Regulating Broadcasting in the Internet and Fighting against Crimes Committed through Internet Broadcasting, and other respective legislation.

(5) Student has to notify the University immediately in the event of losing the password. Otherwise, the student will be held responsible.

 

Technical Issues and Responsibility Regarding Access

Article 7-   Izmir University of Economics is responsible for providing a fair access to course materials on Learning Management System for student. 

Effectiveness
Article 8 –
This Regulation takes effect on the date it is approved by the Senate
 
Enforcement
Article 9 –
The Rector of the Izmir University of Economics enforces the provisions of this Regulation.

Student Ethics Declaration

I accept that my information on the University Student Information System and my course videos to be recorded on Learning Management System as part of Digital Education Support.  I certify that I will not share, reproduce, or use course materials on Learning Management System for other purposes under any condition, and violate the respective legislation. Otherwise, I will be held responsible.

  

This regulation takes effect upon the decision of the Senate dated 19 August 2015 and numbered 254-A4, and the decision of the Board of Trustees dated 02 September 2015 and numbered 10.
